1. Why ROTEC?
ROTEC was created as a program to offer students the opportunity to enroll in a variety of Career and Technical Education courses that will prepare them with the knowledge and skills for employment, industry certifications, and further education and training after high school.
2. Why should a student enroll in ROTEC classes?
All programs have working arrangements with employers in the Roanoke Valley and dual enrollment opportunities with Virginia Western Community College so students can enter the workforce upon graduation or move on to post-secondary education.
3. Who can attend ROTEC?
High school students attending Roanoke City Public Schools can enroll and take classes offered at the Gibboney campus as described in the program of studies.
4. What classes are offered at ROTEC?
Programs are centered around ten (10) career clusters: Automotive, Health and Medical Sciences, Marketing, Hospitality, Human Services, Manufacturing, Business, and Information Technology.
5. What are some of the benefits of attending ROTEC?
All programs include "hands on" learning projects for students and incorporate instruction in workforce readiness skill development. All students will have contact with employers throughout the Roanoke Valley during the school year and will be able to participate in contests and leadership activities as members of the student organizations related to their courses of study.
